Don't count me out.

So....I get one of those emails....I assume you're not putting together a crew for the race in September?
What a slap in the face. OUCH! That's all I can say about that.

I'll start out by telling you what I am not.

I am not a chicken. Currently, however, I do resemble one. Arms which once housed triceps now resemble wings. Legs which were once defined can now be called bird legs. This is temporary.
I am also not an athlete. According to the Oxford dictionary, an athlete is" a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise". Although I am not particularly proficient, however, I do engage in a log of athletic endeavors. In 2013, I ran my first half marathon, finished the Spartan Beast, competed in the Crossfit Open and paddled in the Queen Lilioukalani Long Distance Canoe race.

On December 2, my life changed. I ended up in the hospital for nearly two weeks and ended up with a surgery called a "small bowel resection." Basically they removed 16 inches of my small intestine, my appendix and my terminal ilium. I have midline scar about a foot long. I could have died. It saved my life.

This blog will chronicle my journey BACK to where I was before I had abdominal surgery.
